Sophie Parsons

Sophie Parsons is one of our firm’s two in-house counsel.

As in-house counsel Sophie works as an advocate as part of a team with other lawyers from our firm. Solicitors from our firm brief Sophie to appear on behalf of clients in a range of matters at Melbourne and suburban courts.

Since joining Doogue + George, Sophie has represented a number of clients involved with the Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory. Sophie appeared as Counsel at numerous formal hearings on behalf of current and former Northern Territory government employees, adults and children with vulnerable witnesses status, and a dispute resolution group from a remote community. Sophie specialises in indictable crime including violence (assaults, armed robberies, aggravated burglaries), drug matters and sexual offences, specifically historical sex offences and rape charges. Recently, Sophie appeared on behalf of a client charged with Australia’s first Commonwealth prosecution of marrying a person not of marriageable age (a person under the age of 18). In July 2017 Sophie attended the National Criminal Defense College in the USA and completed an intensive course in trial practice and advocacy. Prior to commencing her role at this firm, Sophie gained significant experience as a criminal defence lawyer in the Northern Territory. Sophie was employed by Aboriginal Legal Aid in Darwin (NAAJA) for three and a half years. During her time at NAAJA Sophie was Regional Manager of North East Arnhem, co-ordinating five circuit courts, and was also Practice Manager of the criminal team during her last six months. Sophie has previous experience in civil litigation, personal injury, and criminal law as a solicitor at private law firms in Darwin and Melbourne. Sophie was admitted to practice in 2011 after graduating from Monash University in 2009.
