Bill is a Melbourne criminal lawyer who has appeared in many jury trials as a Barrister, handled committals and pleas of guilty and not guilty and currently oversees the major criminal trials that are being run out of the Melbourne Office. In his early career, Bill worked for 2 1/2 years as a criminal lawyer for the Aboriginal Legal Service in the Northern Territory and has appeared on behalf of the firm’s clients in Courts in NSW and South Australia. He often instructs other Barristers in trials. It is clear that this gives him a great advantage in knowing what other Barristers will need to win their cases and to be able to formulate an early strategy with the client. There is no better basis for giving advice about how a jury will react than having stood in front of them on a number of occasions and having seen how they react. Due to one of his cases involving alleged terrorism he received a security clearance from the Australian Government to view classified documents as part of his Melbourne criminal lawyer duties to the accused. Bill is the former Chairperson of the committee of management of the Broadmeadows Community Legal Centre. He has been on the committee for over ten years. Bill is also a committee member of the Law Institute of Victoria’s criminal law section. He is that section’s representative on the County Court Rules committee and also is the representative on the County Court sex list user group.
